Version Mangiennes: Books in the Village

Version Mangiennes is an unconventional literary festival that takes place every May at the Café du Centre in Mangiennes, a small village in the Meuse region. This intimate and warm event is the result of a collaboration between the Version Mangiennes association and Macula editions, a publishing house specializing in arts and humanities.

Encounters Around Books

The festival is entirely built around the book in all its diversity:

  • Author presentations: Writers, poets, essayists, and researchers come to present their works and interact with the public.
  • Conferences: Talks on various themes – poetry, philosophy, humanities, art history, and contemporary literature.
  • Readings: Reading performances by authors and actors, some accompanied by musicians for an enriched sensory experience.
  • Children's workshops: Discovering bookmaking, introduction to writing and reading for the younger audience.

The Café du Centre: A Revived Community Hub

The Version Mangiennes association was created in 2023 on the initiative of Véronique Yersin, director of Macula editions, and is located in the former Café du Centre of Mangiennes. This place, a symbol of French rural life, rediscovers its role as a meeting and exchange point thanks to the festival, which brings a breath of culture and conviviality.

A Rural Festival

Version Mangiennes illustrates the possibility of fostering culture in rural areas. By investing a village in the Meuse region, the festival creates a bridge between the world of publishing and literary creation on one hand, and the rural territory on the other. The encounters take place in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, encouraging authentic exchanges between authors and the public.

Free Access

All encounters – except for concerts – are free to access, allowing everyone to discover the richness of the program without constraint. This free admission contributes to the spirit of openness and accessibility that characterizes the festival.
