Musical evenings in the Romanesque abbey of Vertheuil, in Médoc
Festival Voûtes et Voix — also known as Les Soirées Musicales de l'Abbaye — is a summer festival organized every summer in the Romanesque abbey of Vertheuil, in the heart of the Médoc wine region. Established in 2003, it offers eclectic concerts every Friday evening in July and August (sacred music, jazz, gospel, choral singing, tributes to French chanson) in the exceptional setting of the Saint-Pierre abbey church, a former stop on the Camino de Santiago.
The event is organized by the association Les Amis de l'Abbaye de Vertheuil, which has been working for over twenty years to promote the heritage and cultural programming of the site. After each concert, the public is invited to meet the artists over a Médoc wine tasting.
The Festival Voûtes et Voix, now also known as Les Soirées Musicales de l'Abbaye, is a series of summer concerts held since 2003 in the Romanesque abbey of Vertheuil, in Gironde. Located on the ancient routes of the Camino de Santiago, the Saint-Pierre abbey church offers remarkable acoustics and a unique heritage setting to host musicians and singers.
Each summer, the program blends sacred music, jazz, gospel, choral singing, opera, and tributes to French chanson. Concerts take place on Friday evenings at 9 PM, generally between mid-July and late August. High-level artists — soloists, vocal ensembles, orchestras — perform there in an intimate atmosphere.
Located in the Médoc wine region, halfway between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic coast, the Abbey of Vertheuil is a major site of Aquitaine Romanesque heritage. Its Saint-Pierre abbey church, its conventual buildings, and its park are an integral part of the festival experience.
The event is organized by the Association Les Amis de l'Abbaye de Vertheuil, which also animates other highlights on the site (Échappées Musicales, Passiflore de Printemps, Nuit des Abbayes). Ticketing is handled by the HelloAsso platform, the Médoc tourist offices, and the Vertheuil town hall.
After each concert, the public is invited to an exchange with the artists around a Médoc wine tasting — a moment of sharing that makes this rural festival unique.
For 2026, the Association Les Amis de l'Abbaye de Vertheuil offers five musical evenings on Friday nights at 9:00 PM, from July 17 to August 21, in the exceptional setting of the Romanesque abbey church of Saint-Pierre.
The program spans various aesthetics: from grand choral and symphonic repertoire (Karl Jenkins' Requiem, JOSEM) to New Orleans jazz, from gospel to a tribute to French chanson. The evening of August 21 is part of La Nuit des Abbayes, a heritage event in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
After each concert, the audience is invited to meet the artists over a Médoc wine tasting — a time for exchange that makes the festival so convivial.
Karl Jenkins' Requiem — Hémiole vocal ensemble (about thirty singers), solo soprano, and an orchestra of 10 musicians. Excerpts from Antonín Dvořák's Stabat Mater as a complementary program.
Denis Girault Quintet — Jazz formation featuring trumpet, clarinet, drums, banjo, and double bass. Swing and New Orleans repertoire.
Studio Gospel — Seven professional singers accompanied by a pianist for a program of gospel standards.
JOSEM — Youth Symphony Orchestra — Sixty young musicians perform a program ranging from Handel to Grieg, including pieces from Central Europe (Balkans, Hungary).
