Created in 2005, the Zik à Tesseau festival was for twenty years an unmissable event for contemporary music in Indre. Every year in September, under a big top erected on the Tesseau site (Les Terres Rouges) in Saint-Lactencin, it offered two evenings of eclectic concerts mixing rock, world music, brass band, reggae, and unclassifiable sounds. Organized by the Communauté de communes Val de l'Indre-Brenne, this human-sized festival stood out for its ultra-affordable prices, a warm atmosphere, and the possibility of free on-site camping. Its 20th and last edition was held on September 14, 2024.
ℹ️ Festival discontinued. After twenty years of existence, the Zik à Tesseau festival has bid farewell: the Communauté de communes Val de l'Indre-Brenne organized its 20th and last edition on Saturday, September 14, 2024. This page is kept as an archive of the festival's history. No editions are planned for 2025 or 2026.
From 2005 to 2024, the Zik à Tesseau festival made Saint-Lactencin vibrate to the rhythm of the most eclectic contemporary music. Located on the Tesseau site (Les Terres Rouges), in the commune's activity zone, near Buzançais and the RD943, the festival had forged a strong identity: that of a friendly, accessible event resolutely focused on musical discovery.
Each edition of Zik à Tesseau offered two evenings of concerts under a big top, on Friday and Saturday of the second weekend of September. The program gave pride of place to eclecticism: rock, world music, brass band, reggae, afrobeat, French chanson, electro, and many other genres coexisted on the festival stage. The programmed artists, often on the rise or from alternative scenes, offered energetic and generous performances.
Zik à Tesseau stood out for its family-friendly and convivial atmosphere. Prices were among the lowest of French festivals — just a few euros per evening — making culture accessible to the greatest number. The site had a bar, homemade food, free parking, and free camping, allowing festival-goers to fully enjoy the event without worrying about logistics.
Organized by the Communauté de communes Val de l'Indre-Brenne's animation service, in partnership with local associations in Saint-Lactencin, the festival embodied the commitment of local authorities to access to culture in rural areas. In twenty years of existence, Zik à Tesseau had managed to build a loyal and enthusiastic audience, making this event a pillar of Berrichonne cultural life.
Over the years, the festival welcomed artists from all horizons: Trust, Les Ramoneurs de Menhirs, Shaolin Temple Defenders and Thomas Kahn (2019), Tomawok, Asian Dub Foundation and La P'tite Fumée (2023), or Mouss et Hakim (Zebda), Sergent Garcia and Jumbo System for the last edition in 2024. From rock brass bands to reggae groups, from committed singers to world music formations, each edition renewed surprise and discovery.
In 2024, the Communauté de communes Val de l'Indre-Brenne announced that the 20th edition, on September 14, 2024, would be the last. The Zik à Tesseau festival has therefore not been held since. The page remains online to preserve the memory of this event which marked the cultural life of Indre for two decades.
