Musical and oenological journey through the emblematic sites of Meursault
The Bach à Bacchus Festival is a classical music and oenology festival created in 1986 in Meursault by the association Les Amis de la Musique à Meursault. For about ten days in July, music lovers and oenophiles gather in the heritage sites of Meursault — Saint-Nicolas church, Léproserie, Château de Cîteaux — for concerts ranging from baroque to jazz, enriched with commented tastings and vineyard tours.
The Bach à Bacchus Festival was born in 1986 from the desire of the association Les Amis de la Musique à Meursault to combine two Burgundian passions: music and wine. Every summer, for about ten days in July, the village of Meursault — famous for its great white wines — transforms into an open-air musical stage, hosting concerts in its most emblematic heritage sites.
The festival's program covers a wide musical spectrum: baroque music, classical, jazz, tango nuevo, Renaissance songs, and world music. Each edition features about fifteen concerts adapted to the venues that host them: the Saint-Nicolas church for its acoustic resonance, the Léproserie for its intimate atmosphere, and the Château de Cîteaux for its majestic setting. The invited artists are chosen for their musical excellence and their taste for sharing.
What sets Bach à Bacchus apart from other classical music festivals is the integration of oenology into the program. The concerts are enhanced by commented wine tastings of Meursault wines, visits to wine estates, and dinners with the artists at the winemakers' estates. This alliance between music and wine creates a complete sensory experience, true to the spirit of the Burgundian terroir.
The festival aims to be accessible to all audiences, with prices ranging from 15 to 30 euros per concert and free admission for under 18s. Booking is recommended due to the limited capacity of the heritage sites. The intimate atmosphere and the proximity to the artists make each concert a unique moment of sharing between music, wine, and heritage.
