The Festival Amiens Tout-monde: a dialogue between world cultures
Born within the Maison de la Culture d'Amiens, one of the first cultural centers created in France and inaugurated by André Malraux in 1966, the Festival Amiens Tout-monde is part of a tradition of openness to the world and cultural democratization. The festival takes its name from the founding concept of Édouard Glissant, a Martinican writer and philosopher who defined "Tout-Monde" as "our universe as it changes and endures through exchange".
Each year, between March and April, the festival brings together artists from Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia on the Amiens stages, combining Portuguese and Angolan, South African and Senegalese, Italian and Lebanese energies. The program intertwines disciplines — contemporary dance, theater, world music, cinema, and visual arts — to offer four days of intense artistic exploration.
A demanding and open program
The Festival Amiens Tout-monde is distinguished by the quality of its programming, which brings together established artists and emerging creators. Renowned directors such as Stanislas Nordey, jazz musicians like Henri Texier and Raphaël Imbert, and choreographers and performers from around the world follow one another on the stages of the Maison de la Culture and its partner venues.
The festival is also a space for reflection and debate. Conferences, artist meet-and-greets, and round tables punctuate the program, inviting the public to deepen the questions raised by the works: identity, métissage, colonial memory, living together, and contemporary creation.
Strong territorial roots
Located in the heart of Amiens, the capital of historic Picardy and prefecture of the Somme, the festival radiates far beyond the city. The Maison de la Culture d'Amiens, a national stage and international production and distribution hub, is the epicenter of the event, but the festival also spreads to other cultural venues in the Amiens metropolitan area.
The Festival Amiens Tout-monde fully participates in the cultural vitality of a city marked by exceptional heritage — from the Notre-Dame Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic art and a UNESCO World Heritage site, to the picturesque Saint-Leu district crossed by the canals of the Somme.
