The big popular and free festival by the Scorff
The Festival du Saumon is a popular and free festival organized every year in early July in Pont-Scorff, in the Morbihan region, since 1995. Supported by the association Pont-Scorff Animations and over 250 volunteers, this outdoor festival celebrates the Scorff, a mythical river of the Atlantic salmon, through a week of activities: concerts, street performances, brass bands, theater, children's games, and scientific activities around the river. The event attracts over 20,000 visitors over three days.
The Festival du Saumon was created in 1995 under the impetus of a handful of volunteers who loved the Scorff, an emblematic river in the Morbihan region known for hosting one of the last wild Atlantic salmon populations in France. Held at the Manoir de Saint-Urchaud, a magnificent estate on the riverbank, the festival has become, in nearly thirty years, a must-attend event in the Lorient summer.
The Festival du Saumon is above all a big popular and free festival that brings together all generations. For three days, the park of the Manoir de Saint-Urchaud transforms into a vast festive space with concerts on stage, street performances and strolling acts, brass bands, theater, scientific activities about the river and the Scorff ecosystem, and numerous children's games.
True to its origins, the festival places environmental awareness at the heart of its programming. Educational activities on the fauna and flora of the Scorff, workshops to discover the aquatic ecosystem, and meetings with scientists and naturalists allow the public to better understand the challenges of preserving this exceptional river and its emblematic fish, the Atlantic salmon.
The Festival du Saumon is supported by the association Pont-Scorff Animations (PSA) and mobilizes over 250 volunteers each year. This collective commitment demonstrates the attachment of the inhabitants of Pont-Scorff and the Lorient community to this event, which contributes to the influence of their town and the valorization of their natural and cultural heritage.
The Manoir de Saint-Urchaud, the festival site, offers a remarkable landscaped setting on the banks of the Scorff. The tree-lined park, crossed by the river, provides an ideal natural backdrop for an outdoor festival. Its proximity to Terres de Nataë (formerly the Pont-Scorff zoo, now an animal refuge) enhances the site's tourist appeal.
