About Festival Latino

The Festival Latino de Tarascon, also known as "Tarascon Latino goes around the world", is a free festival of world music and dances organized every summer in July in Tarascon-sur-Ariege. For over 25 years, this event has hosted international troupes of musicians and dancers from all corners of the globe to offer colorful and rhythmic shows at the Espace Culturel Francois Mitterrand. Latin America holds a place of honor in the programming, but the festival also opens up to African, Asian, and Oceanian cultures. Four evenings of free concerts attract thousands of spectators each year in a warm and festive atmosphere.

A festival that has been taking people on a journey for over 25 years

Created in the 1990s, the Festival Latino de Tarascon was born from the desire to introduce the people of Ariege to the music and dances of Latin America and the rest of the world. Over the years, the festival has expanded its programming to welcome troupes from all continents, while retaining its original Latin identity. Renamed some years as "Rythmes du Monde" (Rhythms of the World), the event remains true to its mission: to offer quality shows in a friendly and accessible setting for everyone.

International troupes on stage

Each edition of the festival hosts leading international folklore ensembles. Over the years, spectators have been able to applaud folk ballet troupes from Bolivia, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, as well as from Tanzania, Nepal, New Caledonia, and many other countries. Each evening is dedicated to a country or region of the world, allowing the public to discover authentic musical and choreographic traditions. The artists, often in traditional costumes, offer spectacular performances combining dance, song, and live music.

A free event open to all

One of the strengths of the Festival Latino is its accessibility. The concerts take place outdoors at the Espace Culturel Francois Mitterrand in Tarascon-sur-Ariege and are offered at very affordable prices, or even free for some evenings. Dance workshops, craft markets featuring typical products from the represented countries, and culinary workshops complete the musical program. The warm and festive atmosphere of the Pyrenean summer evenings makes the festival a must-attend event of the summer season in Ariege.

Tarascon-sur-Ariege, a town of art and prehistory

The festival takes place in an exceptional setting. Tarascon-sur-Ariege, a small Pyrenean town dominated by the Tour du Castella, is known for its major prehistoric sites, including the Niaux Cave and the Park of Prehistory. Festival visitors can combine the discovery of world music with the exploration of a unique natural and cultural heritage, in the heart of a preserved and welcoming Pyrenean valley.
