A High-Level International Eventing Competition
The Festival of Eventing of Pompadour is organized every year in June by the Société des Courses et du Haras de Pompadour (SCHP) at the National Stud of Pompadour, an emblematic establishment of French horse breeding. This international eventing (CCE) competition attracts the best professional and amateur riders from France and Europe, who come to compete in the three disciplines that make up this demanding event: dressage, cross-country, and show jumping.
Three Disciplines, One Champion
Eventing is an Olympic discipline that tests the versatility of the rider-horse partnership through three successive phases. Dressage, the first phase, takes place at the Puy-Marmont equestrian stadium and assesses the horse's submission, elegance, and precision. The cross-country, a spectacular countryside event, is held on the course set up at the Pompadour racecourse and tests the horse's courage, speed, and endurance against natural obstacles. Finally, show jumping, the last phase, again at the equestrian stadium, tests the pair's technique, precision, and physical condition after the intense effort of the cross-country.
An Exceptional Setting in the Heart of Corrèze
The Festival of Eventing takes place in the prestigious setting of the National Stud of Pompadour, an establishment created in 1761 and listed as a historic monument, at the foot of the Château de Pompadour. The 90-hectare site boasts top-class equestrian facilities: the Puy-Marmont equestrian stadium for dressage and show jumping, a technical and hilly cross-country course on the racecourse, and France's only natural sand race track. This exceptional setting makes Pompadour one of the most popular equestrian competition venues in France.
Entertainment and Camaraderie for All
The festival is not limited to the sporting events themselves. An exhibitors' village welcomes visitors with stands offering equestrian equipment, local crafts, and regional products. Entertainment is provided throughout the weekend for all ages: pony rides, demonstrations, and meet-and-greets with the riders. On-site catering allows visitors to fully enjoy the event in a friendly and family atmosphere. Admission is free, making the Festival of Eventing an accessible event for all horse and equestrian sport enthusiasts.
