Dance with your feet in the water

The Festival Plages de Danse is a unique cultural event that places contemporary dance in public spaces at the heart of the Rhuys peninsula in Morbihan. Supported by the Espace Culturel l'Hermine in Sarzeau, this biennial festival offers a unique experience where dance interacts with the maritime landscapes of the Gulf of Morbihan and the Atlantic Ocean.

Five days, five towns

For five days in May, the festival takes over the public spaces of five towns on the Rhuys peninsula:

  • Sarzeau, the historic heart of the festival
  • Arzon, at the tip of the peninsula
  • Le Tour du Parc, on the edge of the Gulf
  • Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys, facing the ocean
  • Saint-Armel, between marshes and the Gulf

Beaches, gardens, squares, alleys, parks, and natural spaces become ephemeral dance stages.

An open and accessible program

The Festival Plages de Danse program includes:

  • Performances by contemporary dance companies
  • Participatory dance workshops
  • Dance film screenings
  • Exhibitions related to movement and the body
  • Impromptu danced moments in public spaces

A dialogue between dance and landscape

The Festival Plages de Danse makes the relationship between the body and space its founding principle. Choreographies are designed to interact with the locations that host them: sand, waves, wind, stones, and the light of the Gulf become an integral part of the performances. This in-situ approach offers the public an immersive and poetic experience.

A unifying event

By investing the public spaces of the Rhuys peninsula, the festival reaches a large and diverse audience: residents, holidaymakers, walkers, and dance enthusiasts meet and share the emotion of ephemeral and free performances. Volunteers from the peninsula contribute to the success of each edition.
