Biennial festival of dance in public spaces on the Rhuys peninsula
The Festival Plages de Danse is a unique cultural event that places contemporary dance in public spaces at the heart of the Rhuys peninsula in Morbihan. Supported by the Espace Culturel l'Hermine in Sarzeau, this biennial festival offers a unique experience where dance interacts with the maritime landscapes of the Gulf of Morbihan and the Atlantic Ocean.
For five days in May, the festival takes over the public spaces of five towns on the Rhuys peninsula:
Beaches, gardens, squares, alleys, parks, and natural spaces become ephemeral dance stages.
The Festival Plages de Danse program includes:
The Festival Plages de Danse makes the relationship between the body and space its founding principle. Choreographies are designed to interact with the locations that host them: sand, waves, wind, stones, and the light of the Gulf become an integral part of the performances. This in-situ approach offers the public an immersive and poetic experience.
By investing the public spaces of the Rhuys peninsula, the festival reaches a large and diverse audience: residents, holidaymakers, walkers, and dance enthusiasts meet and share the emotion of ephemeral and free performances. Volunteers from the peninsula contribute to the success of each edition.

The 8th edition of the Plages de Danse Festival takes place from Wednesday, May 13 to Sunday, May 17, 2026, on the Rhuys peninsula, between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Atlantic Ocean. For five days, contemporary dance will take over the public spaces of five communes: Sarzeau, Arzon, Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys, Saint-Armel, and Le Tour-du-Parc. Co-organized by Espace Culturel l'Hermine and the commune of Sarzeau, with the support of Golfe du Morbihan Vannes Agglomération, the Morbihan Department, the Brittany Region, and DRAC Bretagne.
16 shows for 21 performances, by established and emerging companies: C'hoari, Compagnie des Corps jetés, Libertivore, Pied en Sol, Storyteller, Accrorap (Kader Attou), David Rolland Chorégraphies, Oups Dance Company, as well as solos by Claire Ducreux, Olga Dukhovna, Joachim Maudet, Joanne Jacob. In addition, there are six workshops open to all (skate, voice, acrobatics, Roaring Twenties, urban dance, Cyr wheel), two exhibitions, four cinema screenings at l'Hermine (Resilient Man, En nous, Germaine Acogny l'essence de la danse, Cunningham) and a participatory project bringing together 40 performers.
The festival fosters dialogue between choreographies and landscapes. The shows take over beaches (Penvins, Baie du Lindin), gardens (Jardin Lesage, Jardin de Léontine), woods (Bois du Pâtis, Bois de la Grée), ports (Port aux Moines, Port du Crouesty), parks, and streets of the five communes. Almost all of the program is free; some emblematic events (Fiskal by Compagnie C'hoari, Assirem by Blaise Merlin) require paid registration.
A highlight of the 2026 edition: the Bal fou des années folles (Crazy Roaring Twenties Ball) by David Rolland Chorégraphies, Saturday, May 16 at 9 PM in Arzon, with the Sassy Swingers live (Charleston, Foxtrot, Pasodoble, One Step). The public is invited to come in costume, in the spirit of early 20th century dance halls. The closing event is entrusted to Compagnie Accrorap by Kader Attou, Sunday, May 17 at 5 PM, Baie du Lindin, with the piece Prélude Out for 9 hip-hop performers to original music by Romain Dubois.
The Rhuys peninsula is located south of Vannes, between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Atlantic Ocean.
Performances take place in the public spaces of Sarzeau, Arzon, Le Tour du Parc, Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys, and Saint-Armel. Specific locations will be announced in the program for each edition.
Many performances are free in public spaces. Some events are ticketed.
The festival is biennial (every two years).
