The Plinn Dance at the Heart of Brittany
The Festival Plinn du Danouet has been celebrating the Plinn dance since 1976, a traditional Breton dance characteristic of the Kreiz-Breizh (Central Brittany) region. Organized by the Association for the restoration of the Notre-Dame du Danouet chapel, the festival is held annually around August 15th in the hamlet of Danouet, in the commune of Bourbriac. The wooden hall of Danouet, the competitions, the gossip simmering all weekend, and the fest-noz under the stars are the hallmarks of this unique event.
A Week of Breton Culture
The festival program unfolds over a full week:
- Workshop Days: Traditional music and dance workshops, open to beginners and experienced participants alike.
- Fest-deiz: Daytime ball with musicians and singers.
- Fest-noz: Nighttime ball, a highlight of the festival, animated by the best Breton music groups.
- Competitions: Bagad, singing, and dance competitions, attracting the best musicians and dancers from Brittany.
- Conferences and Visits: Discover the heritage of the Danouet chapel and the history of the festival.
- Singing Vigils and shared meals.
- August 15th Pardon: Traditional religious ceremony at the chapel.
The Notre-Dame du Danouet Chapel
The Notre-Dame du Danouet chapel, nestled in a green hamlet in the commune of Bourbriac, is the beating heart of the festival. This ancient place of worship, restored thanks to the work of the organizing association, hosts the August 15th pardon and serves as a backdrop for concerts, conferences, and vigils. The hamlet of Danouet offers a bucolic and authentic setting, far from urban hustle and bustle, perfect for experiencing Breton culture in its most rooted dimension.
