Gastronomic and traditional festival celebrating buckwheat in Lamballe-Armor
The Fête du Blé Noir is held every year in October in Morieux, a small rural commune integrated into Lamballe-Armor, in the Côtes-d'Armor. Organized by the Comité d'Animation de Morieux, this event pays tribute to buckwheat, also known as blé noir, a pseudo-cereal that is one of the pillars of traditional Breton gastronomy. Arriving in Brittany in the Middle Ages, buckwheat nourished generations of Bretons in the form of galettes, crêpes, and porridge, before experiencing a gastronomic revival in recent decades.
The heart of the festival is dedicated to tastings: buckwheat galettes with sausages, kig ha farz (Breton stew with buckwheat), sweet crêpes, and buckwheat tartines, goat cheese, and honey. A local producers' market offers spirulina, hemp products, craft beers, honeys, and a variety of buckwheat derivatives. Visitors can also attend demonstrations of galette and crêpe making by artisan crêpe makers.
Beyond gastronomy, the Fête du Blé Noir offers a varied program of activities: a 12 km hike with local product refreshments, family orienteering races, shows by the company Tryskal Cie, Celtic music with the group Les Pen Ha Houët, wooden games, Celtic face painting, and a presentation of Breton horses by breeders from the Lamballe region. Admission is free and the atmosphere is resolutely friendly and family-oriented.
The festival takes place in Morieux, delegated commune of Lamballe-Armor (22400).
