Fête du Terroir et de la Cerise de Malemort-du-Comtat
Village festival dedicated to the IGP cherry from Coteaux du Ventoux and the flavors of the Comtadin region: producers' market, free entertainment, flea market and cherry pit spitting contest
2026
About Fête de la Cerise
Every year at the end of June, the Provençal village of Malemort-du-Comtat, perched in the heart of the Comtat Venaissin and the Mont-Ventoux Regional Natural Park, celebrates the local cherry and the flavors of its region during a big festive and popular day. Organized by the C.A.L.V.I.A.S association, in partnership with the municipality, the Ventoux Sud intercommunal tourist office and the producers of the Cerise des Coteaux du Ventoux (IGP), the festival brings together producers, artisans and visitors around a friendly program combining a local produce market, musical entertainment, games for young and old, a flea market and a large popular meal.
As the Vaucluse department is the leading French producer of cherries, this festival honors emblematic varieties (Burlat, Summit, Reverchon…) as well as all derivative products: juices, syrups, ice creams, cherry teas and jams. Stands of fresh cherries, food trucks, catering, ice cream vendor, refreshment stand and free entertainment occupy the village square all day long, in a family-friendly and Provençal atmosphere.

2026 Edition — The IGP Coteaux du Ventoux cherry in the spotlight
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Malemort-du-Comtat once again hosts its Local Produce and Cherry Festival, organized by the C.A.L.V.I.A.S association with the support of the municipality, the Ventoux Sud intercommunal tourist office, and the producers of the Coteaux du Ventoux Cherry (IGP). Throughout the day, the village center transforms into a large open-air market where fresh cherry producers (Burlat, Summit, Reverchon…), local artisans, and exhibitors presenting cherry juices, syrups, ice creams, teas, and jams come together.

The cherry of Malemort, treasure of the Luberon foothills
A few kilometers south-east of Carpentras, in the hills that announce the Luberon, Malemort-du-Comtat is a perched Provençal village whose surroundings are covered with cherry trees in bloom in spring and laden with red fruits at the beginning of summer. This transitional terroir between the Comtat Venaissin plain and the first heights of the Luberon brings together the ideal conditions for cherry cultivation: daytime heat, nighttime coolness, well-drained soils, and a south-facing exposure.
The varieties grown in Malemort and its surroundings include the Burlat, an early and fleshy cherry with a sweet-tart flavor, the Summit with large sizes and firm flesh, the late and very sweet Reverchon, and the crunchy and juicy Bigarreau. The cherry orchards in the area, maintained by families of producers attached to the quality of their production, supply the markets of Carpentras, Mazan, and Apt, as well as numerous regional wholesalers.
Malemort-du-Comtat, a village of character
Malemort-du-Comtat is one of those authentic Provençal villages whose discreet beauty and strong identity make it a charming place to live and a high-quality tourist site. Its limestone streets, its Romanesque church, its houses clustered on the rock, and its panoramas over the Comtat plain and Mont Ventoux form a postcard picture of the inland Provence.
The village is surrounded by vineyards, olive trees, cherry orchards, and fragrant garrigue, in an agricultural landscape shaped by centuries of peasant work. The local economy relies on market gardening and fruit farming – cherries, apricots, grapes, olives – and rural crafts. The terroir festival is thus a reflection of a community that still lives in direct connection with its lands and its productions.
The terroir market: the producers' showcase
The Fête du Terroir et de la Cerise is organized around a terroir market that brings together local producers and artisans from the region. Cherry growers from Malemort and neighboring villages present their finest boxes of fresh cherries, sold directly from the orchard to the consumer in the tradition of short supply chains. Other producers offer apricots, strawberries, goat cheeses, olive oil, garrigue honey, aromatic herbs, wines from AOC Ventoux and Côtes du Luberon, and artisanal specialties.
Local processors are also present: artisanal cherry jams, cherry liqueur, homemade clafoutis and tarts, crumbles, and artisanal ice creams delight visitors. Free tastings allow everyone to sample fresh cherries and artisanal preparations, with a generosity typical of Provençal terroir festivals.
Popular traditions and festive entertainment
The festival honors traditional Provençal customs with folk entertainment, demonstrations of traditional crafts, and old games. Provençal music groups and Occitan language choirs liven up the village square, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. Folk dances in traditional costumes recall the living cultural heritage of the villages of Comtat Venaissin.
Workshops for children – cherry picking in nearby orchards, jam and tart making workshops, traditional games – allow families to have a complete and educational experience with local know-how. A best cherry clafoutis competition pits amateur and professional cooks against each other in a friendly and gourmet competition, judged by local residents and producers.
Ventoux and Luberon wine in the spotlight
The Fête du Terroir would be incomplete without the wines that accompany cherries on Provençal tables. The wine estates of AOC Ventoux and AOC Côtes du Luberon present at the festival offer tastings of their rosé and red vintages, perfect pairings with local charcuterie and cheeses. Regional cooperative wineries also participate, showcasing their accessible ranges for lovers of local wines.
It's a great opportunity to discover that cherries and rosé wine from Provence form a natural and festive pairing, both reflecting the generosity of a sun-drenched terroir shaped by human know-how. Wines available for tasting on-site, take-away sales, food and wine pairing advice: the terroir of Comtat is revealed in all its richness in Malemort.
A village, a festival, a spirit
What makes the Fête du Terroir et de la Cerise de Malemort-du-Comtat so precious is its authenticity. Far from large tourist events, it retains the spirit of a true village festival where residents, producers, and visitors come together in a shared celebration of the terroir and Provençal rural life. The warm welcome, the generous tastings, the quality of the products, and the beauty of the setting make this day one of those simple and precious moments that make you want to return every year.
