About La Pourcailhade

La Pourcailhade is the famous pig festival of Trie-sur-Baïse, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, organized every year on the second Sunday of August. Created in 1975, this original and picturesque festival perpetuates the pig tradition of Trie-sur-Baïse, which was the largest piglet market in France and Europe in the 1970s-1980s. On the program: the French Pig Squeal Championship, the black pudding eating championship, the plush pig throwing contest, piglet races, and a market of local charcuterie makers and producers.

The most famous pig festival in France

La Pourcailhade is a unique event, celebrating pigs and the charcuterie traditions of the Southwest since 1975. Organized under the "halle aux porcs" (pig market hall) in Trie-sur-Baïse, this festival attracts thousands of visitors each year to participate in quirky contests and taste local pork specialties.

Unusual and festive contests

The program of La Pourcailhade is punctuated by emblematic contests:

  • The French Pig Squeal Championship at 3 PM, where participants compete with ingenuity to imitate the squeal of a pig.
  • The black pudding eating championship at 4 PM.
  • The plush pig throwing contest at 5:30 PM.
  • The piglet races at 2 PM.
  • The sausage cutting contest and the ham weighing contest.

A gourmet and festive market

Throughout the day, a market of local charcuterie makers and producers allows visitors to discover and taste the specialties of the Bigourdan region. A friendly aperitif at 11:30 AM precedes the pork-themed lunch, and the evening continues with an animated dinner.

Trie-sur-Baïse, historical capital of the piglet

Trie-sur-Baïse, a bastide town founded in the 13th century, was for decades the largest piglet market in France and even Europe. La Pourcailhade perpetuates this tradition with humor and gastronomy, making this day one of the most popular and original festivals in the Southwest.
