About Le Temps Suspendu

Created in 2014, Le Temps Suspendu is a baroque music festival nestled in the heart of Berry, in the picturesque village of Saint-Benoît-du-Sault. Every summer, for a week, renowned artists and talented young musicians take over the heritage sites of the village — churches, priory, historic manor — to offer intimate concerts featuring original creations and masterpieces of the ancient repertoire. A unique feature: it is the local residents who host the artists, creating an exceptional human connection between musicians and the public.

Le Temps Suspendu: Baroque Music in the Heart of Berry

Since 2014, the Le Temps Suspendu festival has paid tribute to the exceptional heritage of Saint-Benoît-du-Sault and its surroundings by offering a program dedicated to baroque and ancient music. Founded by Sylvestre Vergez, Stanley Smith, and Lucile de Trémiolles, after twelve years of artistic contributions in the region, the festival has established itself as a national benchmark in the French early music scene.

A Singular Artistic Philosophy

Le Temps Suspendu is based on a troupe spirit where established artists and young talents of the new baroque generation come together to create original programs. The concerts, designed in original formats, invite the public to experience an intimate encounter with the musicians. The creations span centuries and cultures, revisiting repertoire masterpieces while highlighting the richness of lesser-known works and fostering natural encounters between different disciplines and aesthetics.

Exceptional Heritage Sites

The concerts take place in historic locations: the gymnasium transformed into a theater, a historic manor, the priory, and the churches of the village and surrounding communes. Each venue offers unique acoustics and atmosphere, enhancing the intimate and immersive character of the festival. Beyond the concerts, the program includes aperitif-concerts and outdoor dinners that punctuate the festival week.

Strong Territorial Roots

The most remarkable feature of Le Temps Suspendu is the involvement of the residents of Saint-Benoît-du-Sault, who voluntarily host the artists for the entire duration of the festival. This gesture of hospitality creates a unique bond between the musicians and the local community, contributing to the warm and friendly atmosphere that characterizes the event. After nine editions, the festival has confirmed its national standing and built a loyal and growing audience, thanks to the quality of its artistic offerings and accessible prices.

2025 Edition: Les Chemins de Traverses

The 2025 edition, titled "Les Chemins de Traverses" (The Paths of Crossings), offers two intertwined journeys through the heart of Berry: the travels of young musicians in creation and a series of baroque stops featuring established ensembles and companies. The program explores various themes, from "The Distant" told through music for children to the court of Lully, including the Scottish Highlands, Venetian splendors, and sacred music.

Le Temps Suspendu — edition 2026

The 13th edition of the Le Temps Suspendu festival will take place in early August 2026 in Saint-Benoît-du-Sault. The baroque music festival will offer a new program of intimate concerts in the heritage sites of the village and surrounding communes.
