Les Grandes Tablées du Saumur-Champigny: the festival of wine and conviviality

The story of Les Grandes Tablées is one of a generous gesture that became a tradition. More than twenty years ago, the Girardeau family offered a pig to the Saumur-Champigny winemakers, who decided to share it with the best ambassadors of their appellation: the inhabitants of Saumur. What began as a modest table has transformed into a major event, now bringing together hundreds of guests on the Place de la République.

An exceptional outdoor meal

Les Grandes Tablées offer a true gastronomic meal in the open air, highlighting the local and seasonal products of the Saumur terroir. Guests sit at long, white-clothed tables in the heart of the city to enjoy a menu prepared by local chefs and paired with wines from the Saumur-Champigny appellation, including the famous Cuvée des 100 Vignerons, a unique blend bringing together the productions of one hundred winemakers from the appellation.

Saumur-Champigny in the spotlight

The Saumur-Champigny appellation, one of the greatest red wines of the Loire, is at the heart of the event. Winemakers are present in large numbers to introduce their wines, chat with guests, and share their passion for this exceptional terroir located on the limestone slopes overlooking the Loire. The red wines made from Cabernet Franc, smooth, fruity, and elegant, perfectly complement the summer cuisine offered.

An event driven by winemakers

Organized by the Syndicat des Producteurs de Saumur-Champigny (Saumur-Champigny Producers' Association), Les Grandes Tablées mobilize over 200 volunteers each year to ensure the service, reception, and entertainment of this unique evening. In 2013, the event received the label of "Grande Tablée" of national interest awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture, recognizing its contribution to the promotion of French wine and gastronomic heritage.

After a break in 2025 to rethink the event's format, the winemakers will return in 2026 with a renewed formula, refocusing on the very essence of Les Grandes Tablées: an authentic convivial meal with local and seasonal products.
