Traditional garlic festival in Mauvezin, under the market hall, every year on the Monday following August 15th
The Mauvezin Garlic Festival is a traditional Gascon festival held annually in mid-August, under the market hall in Mauvezin town center (Gers, 32120). It celebrates locally grown garlic, honors local farmers from the Gers region, and offers a festive day centered around gastronomy: the « Food'ail Gascon » culinary competition, a traditional market, garlic braiding demonstrations, gourmet evening meals with « Bienvenue à la Ferme » producers, musical entertainment, and wooden games.
For many years, the Mauvezin Garlic Festival has brought together residents of Lomagne and the entire Gers region every mid-August around an emblematic local product: garlic. Organized by the Mauvezin town hall, in partnership with the Office de Tourisme des Bastides de Lomagne, the Chambre d'Agriculture du Gers, and the « Bienvenue à la Ferme » network, the festival takes place under the magnificent listed market hall in the town center.
The day begins with the traditional Monday morning market, animated by the Confrérie de l'ail violet de Cadours and the Confrérie de l'ail blanc de Beaumont-de-Lomagne. The aperitif offered by the municipality traditionally includes garlic tourin soup and garlic toasts.
The afternoon is punctuated by garlic braiding demonstrations by Fabrice Bianchini, producer from the « En Massion » farm in Mauvezin. The « Food'ail Gascon » culinary competition, inaugurated in 2024, pits chef duos against each other around a mandatory ingredient: Gers garlic cultivated in Mauvezin.
In the evening, from 5:30 PM, a market of local producers from the « Bienvenue à la Ferme » network sets up under the market hall. Visitors buy their products and settle at the large tables set up to share a convivial meal. Musical entertainment is traditionally provided by Marc Michel. Free wooden games for all ages complete the entertainment.
The event is free; only purchases from the producers and restaurateurs present are subject to charge.
The 2026 edition of the Mauvezin Garlic Festival will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, under the market hall in the town center, in Mauvezin (Gers). As every year, the day combines a traditional market, the « Food'ail Gascon » culinary competition, garlic braiding, a farmers' market, and Tablées Gourmandes in the evening.
