Medieval festival at Souilly Castle in Meuse
The Medieval Festival of Souilly is a festive and historical event held annually in June at the Château site in Souilly, Meuse. Organized by the association Le Refuge des Pivoines as part of the "Les Sabots du Terroir" fair, this day offers equestrian shows, combat demonstrations, medieval entertainment, a craft market of local producers, and a discovery of the motte castrale and the old castle. Free admission, open to all families.
The Medieval Festival of Souilly invites young and old to travel back in time at the foot of the motte castrale and the old Souilly Castle, witnesses to the medieval history of this Meuse village located between Verdun and Bar-le-Duc on the famous Voie Sacrée.
Equestrian shows are one of the highlights of the day. Knights in armor and harnessed steeds offer demonstrations of jousting, vaulting, and dressage that transport the audience into the world of medieval knights.
Historical reenactment groups present sword fight demonstrations and medieval warfare techniques. These educational and spectacular animations allow for an understanding of the art of war in the Middle Ages.
A market of local artisans and producers, as part of the "Les Sabots du Terroir" fair, offers local Meuse products and artisanal creations. Honey, jams, cheeses, cured meats, basketry, and pottery are to be discovered and tasted.
Numerous activities for the whole family complete the program: creative workshops for children, medieval games, and street performances create a festive and accessible atmosphere.
The festival site is steeped in history. The motte castrale of Souilly, a remnant of a medieval fortification, and the ruins of the old castle provide an authentic and evocative setting for this festive day. The event contributes to the promotion and knowledge of this local historical heritage.
The association Le Refuge des Pivoines is the organizer of this event. Active in the cultural and associative life of Souilly, it hosts the Medieval Festival and the "Les Sabots du Terroir" fair with the aim of uniting the local community around heritage and traditions.
