About Music along the Indre
Music along the Indre — edition 2026
Musique au fil de l'Indre is hosting its seventh summer music academy from July 17th to 24th, 2026. Around sixty wind, brass, and percussion players, aged ten and up, will work in a concert band at the Naturapolis site in Châteauroux, before taking their music across the department for six free events: the Chœur d'hommes de Sartène led by Jean-Paul Poletti in Aigurande on Sunday, July 19th; the Châteauroux-based group JiheL in Mézières-en-Brenne on Thursday, July 23rd; and a closing concert in Châteauroux on Friday, July 24th.
A seventh academy hosted at the Naturapolis site
The workshop returns in 2026 from Friday, July 17th to Friday, July 24th. For this new season, the academy is once again setting up at the Naturapolis site in Châteauroux, which offers the perfect facilities for the project. The workshop kicks off on Friday, July 17th at 2:30 PM with student arrivals and concludes on Friday, July 24th following the 6:00 PM closing concert.
The academy is open to wind, brass, and percussion players aged ten and older, whether they are intermediate students, pursuing professional training, or already experienced musicians. Accommodation is mandatory for minors, who will stay in shared rooms at the Naturapolis boarding facility. Adult students can choose between half-board or full-board options, with the possibility of a private room.
A top-tier teaching staff
Musical and pedagogical direction is led by flutist Pierre Deville, a first-prize winner from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris under Jean-Pierre Rampal and former director of the École Nationale de Musique et de Danse de Châteauroux. He is joined by Mariana Garciagodoy-Cervantes, a Mexico-born conductor, founder of the Ensemble Apocryphe in Paris, and musical director of the Orchestre d'Harmonie de la Musique Municipale de Châteauroux since 2022.
They are supported by section leaders from major French ensembles: Cédric Cyprien (percussionist with the Garde Républicaine) for percussion; Mathilde Fèvre (horn), Eddie Souchois (trombone, Panam'Trombone quartet), Aurélien Meunier (trumpet), and Olivier Bougain (euphonium, director of the Montluçon Conservatory) for brass; and Véronique Tardif (saxophone, professor at the Rouen CRR) and Florian Bernad (clarinet, professor at the Tours CRR) for woodwinds.
A festival that travels across the Indre
True to its nomadic spirit, the academy continues its "off-site" performances to connect with local residents, tourists, and regional musicians. The 2026 program once again hits the road with two special guests.
On Sunday, July 19th, the orchestra heads to Aigurande: a public rehearsal on the Place de la Promenade from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a 5:00 PM concert by the Chœur d'hommes de Sartène, conducted by Jean-Paul Poletti, in the church. On Wednesday, July 22nd, students will perform at the Château des Planches in Saint-Maur at 6:30 PM. On Thursday, July 23rd, the orchestra plays at the Mézières-en-Brenne market at 10:00 AM, followed at 8:00 PM by the group JiheL, eight musicians who have been performing together in Châteauroux since 2017 with a repertoire blending folk, rock, and world music in French. On Friday, July 24th at 6:00 PM, the closing concert takes place at the Naturapolis site in Châteauroux, followed by a buffet reception for students, families, teachers, and staff.
A typical day
The week balances musical rigor with relaxation. A typical day starts with breakfast at 8:00 AM, followed by section rehearsals from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The afternoon is dedicated to extracurricular activities led by counselors from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by full orchestra rehearsals from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Evenings feature social gatherings, concert outings, or full-group rehearsals at 8:30 PM. A dedicated animation team supervises the younger students outside of musical sessions, organizing local outings including swimming, cultural visits, and sports.

A music academy in the heart of the "Land of Harmonies"
Musique au fil de l'Indre was born in October 2019 from the shared passion of three musicians—Yannick Ovide, Mathilde Lane, and Fanny Christiaen—for musical education and sharing. The association was created under the leadership of its president, Yannick Ovide, a key figure in the development of concert band music in the Indre department with nearly two hundred events to his credit. He envisioned a touring music academy that would blend music, heritage, and culture. A board was quickly formed around him, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds committed to the artistic and cultural development of the region.
The association pursues several goals: promoting concert band music by making it accessible to all, organizing educational events that encourage artistic practice, offering students from music schools, conservatories, and bands the chance to meet high-level professionals, and becoming an annual highlight of the cultural development of Indre.
The Naturapolis site in Châteauroux
The academy takes place at the Naturapolis site in Châteauroux, which provides the ideal setting for a week of musical immersion: boarding facilities, rehearsal rooms, and an outdoor concert space. The first editions were held at the Domaine de Bellebouche Holiday Village in Mézières-en-Brenne, in the heart of the Brenne Regional Natural Park.
The academy is open to all wind, brass, and percussion players aged ten and up, whether they are in their second or third cycle of study, pursuing a professional career, or already experienced. Accommodation is mandatory for minor students, who are placed in double rooms; adults may choose between half-board or full-board. A typical day alternates between sectionals in the morning, non-musical activities in the afternoon, full orchestra rehearsals at the end of the day, and evening events, concerts, or tutti rehearsals.
A touring festival across the department
Beyond the academy, Musique au fil de l'Indre hosts a festival featuring "off-site" concerts that spread throughout the department's towns. Since the second edition in 2021, concerts have been held in Palluau-sur-Indre and Mézières-en-Brenne. The eclectic program travels the roads of Indre to bring music directly to the residents, performing in churches, at markets, in community halls, and on village squares. Public rehearsals and festival concerts are free of charge.
A high-level teaching staff
Musical and educational direction is led by flutist Pierre Deville, a first-prize winner from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris in Jean-Pierre Rampal's class and former director of the École Nationale de Musique et de Danse de Châteauroux, working alongside conductor Mariana Garciagodoy-Cervantes, musical director of the Châteauroux Municipal Concert Band since 2022. Sectionals are led by musicians from the Garde Républicaine, the Opéra de Bordeaux, and the regional conservatories of Tours and Rouen.
Seven editions and growing momentum
Since its inception, Musique au fil de l'Indre has continued to grow. The 5th edition in 2024 marked the association's five-year anniversary and brought together seventy musicians ranging from ten to eighty years old. The 7th edition, from July 17 to 24, 2026, confirms this momentum with a concert tour across the entire department.
A project supported by the region
Musique au fil de l'Indre is supported by the Indre Departmental Council, the Brenne Regional Natural Park, and the Confédération Musicale de France. This festival-academy embodies a vision of music as a vehicle for social connection and regional discovery, where collective practice and intergenerational encounters are at the heart of the project.
