Dozens of free stages in the city center on June 21, 2026
Every June 21, Chartres celebrates the Fête de la Musique: from mid-afternoon until midnight, free concerts take over the streets, alleys, squares, and terraces of the city center, from the cathedral square to the banks of the Eure. Organized by the City of Chartres, the day is entirely free and brings together local amateur and professional artists, in all styles: rock, reggae, gospel, electro, French chanson, metal, world music, and early music.
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Chartres into an open-air stage every June 21. In Chartres, free concerts take place in the streets, alleys, bars, and cultural venues, from mid-afternoon until midnight. Coming from the local pool of musicians and pre-selected beforehand, many artists, both amateur and professional, showcase the full extent of their talents.
The city sets up a multitude of stages from one end of the city to the other: Place des Épars and Boulevard Chasles, Place du Châtelet, Place des Halles, the cathedral area (Royal, South, and North portals), Rue de la Volaille and Rue de la Poêle-Percée, Butte des Charbonniers, or the banks of the Eure. The city's bars and restaurants also participate in this musical evening, with concerts on terraces or inside establishments. All styles coexist without hierarchy, from blues to metal, from reggae dub to medieval music, from gospel to electro.
The Fête de la Musique 2026 in Chartres will take place on Sunday, June 21st, from mid-afternoon until midnight, free of charge throughout the city center.
