About Music Festival in Mérignac
Every June 21, Mérignac celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians, Conservatory students, and local bands play for free in the city's streets, squares, and neighborhoods. Organized by the City of Mérignac, the day is entirely free and open to all, from the city center to the Eyquems and Beaudésert districts.
The Fête de la Musique in Mérignac
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Mérignac, in the first ring of the Bordeaux metropolis, into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces, from early evening until the heart of the night, in all genres: rock, pop, rap, ska, reggae, electro, jazz, blues, folk, and world music.
A festival spread across several districts
Usually, the City of Mérignac sets up several stages in different districts: a rock stage in the city center, a pop-rock-classical-blues-folk stage at the Domaine de Fantaisie in the Eyquems district, and an instrumental music and folk-blues stage in Beaudésert. Mobile sound systems and surprise concerts at the foot of buildings complete the setup in the districts, while Conservatory teachers and musicians meet with seniors in the city's retirement homes and EHPADs.
