About Music Festival in Quimper

Every June 21st, Quimper celebrates the Fête de la Musique: eleven partner stages take over the streets, squares, and cultural venues of the city center for free, from Place Saint-Corentin to Le Novomax. Dance, traditional Breton music, electro, hip-hop, jazz, rock, French chanson, and karaoke will fill the air from the afternoon until midnight, featuring performances by students and teachers from the Conservatory, bagadoù, local Quimper collectives, and amateur musicians. The entire day is completely free and open to everyone.

The 2026 Fête de la Musique in Quimper takes place on Sunday, June 21st, with free events throughout the city center. Eleven partner stages will be set up from Place Saint-Corentin to Le Novomax, each managed by a local Quimper association or cultural organization. The lineup includes dance, traditional Breton music, electro, hip-hop, jazz, rock, French chanson, and karaoke. The first concerts by the Conservatoire begin at 4:00 PM at the Cathédrale Saint-Corentin, most stages run from 6:00 PM to midnight, and the bagadoù will perform in the Jardin de l'Évêché until 11:00 PM.

Sunday, June 21, 2026 — eleven partner stages spread across the city center, complemented by open spots for amateur musicians. The first notes ring out at 4:00 PM at the cathedral, with most stages active from 6:00 PM to midnight.

An open-air dance floor hosted by ten Quimper associations: Orina Danse Tahitienne, So'Dance, La Swing Factory, En Scène, Pomme Piment, Mirage, Quimper Happy Line Dance, Kamp Dance, the cabaret workshop, and Loéma Bachata.

The MPT de Penhars sets up a rap and hip-hop stage: concerts by local artists and youth from Local Musik, freestyle and open mic sessions, DJ sets all evening, and a closing set by a guest DJ.

Place du Stivel — Kape Music, contemporary music (6:00 PM-12:00 AM)

Over 80 musicians from the Kape Music school take turns on stage, performing blues, rock, jazz, and French chanson.

Place Médard — Kernavélo, karaoke (6:00 PM-12:00 AM)

A one-of-a-kind karaoke experience powered by human energy using the "Selle à Watt" system: the audience pedals to generate electricity for the stage.

Boulevard Amiral-de-Kerguelen — "Electro Kids" bus by Synchrone (6:00 PM-12:00 AM)

A festive, educational, and artistic electro space designed for families: the stylized bus is colored live by children, featuring a creative drawing and vinyl customization workshop.

Jardin de la Retraite — L'Oiseau sur le toit (6:00 PM-7:00 PM)

Jazz, variety, and world music in a rotating program, alternating between songs and excerpts from the theatrical show "Piqûre d'amour".

Open spots for amateur musicians (6:00 PM-12:00 AM)

Musicians are free to perform in the squares and pedestrian streets of the city center. Locations equipped with power supplies are available at Parvis Julien-Gracq, Passage du Chapeau-Rouge, and at three spots around the market halls.

Practical Information

When: Sunday, June 21, 2026. First concerts start at 4:00 PM at the Saint-Corentin Cathedral, with most stages running from 6:00 PM to midnight.

Where: Throughout Quimper city center — Place Saint-Corentin, the Cathedral, Jardin de l'Évêché, Esplanade François-Mitterrand, Place Terre-au-Duc, Place Médard, Place du Stivel, Rue du Parc, Halles Saint-François, Boulevard Amiral-de-Kerguelen, Jardin de la Retraite, and Le Novomax.

Price: Free admission to all stages.

Transport: The QUB bus network is free on Sundays, though you must still validate your ticket (KorriGo card, QUB mobile app, or by asking the driver). Additional departures are provided from the Rue du Parc stop at 8:10 PM, 9:10 PM, 10:10 PM, 11:10 PM, and 12:10 AM on lines D1 (Petit Guélen), D2 (Université), and D3 (Gourvily), as well as at 10:35 PM and 11:35 PM from the SNCF train station on line D4 (Ergué-Armel Bourg), passing Rue du Parc at 10:40 PM and 11:40 PM. The QUB Noz service runs until midnight, and HandiQUB is extended until midnight (booking required at least 30 minutes in advance).

Parking: Free on Sundays on the street and in the Tour d'Auvergne and Steïr parking lots. Spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility are available at the Place Saint-Mathieu parking lot.

On-site: Free water stations at Place Saint-Corentin and the Esplanade François-Mitterrand (remember to bring your own bottle or reusable cup), city center bars and restaurants will be open, a "green brigade" for waste collection, and prevention stands and mediation teams will be present from 6:00 PM to midnight.

Fête de la Musique in Quimper

Like everywhere else in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique turns the capital of Cornouaille into an open-air stage every June 21st. Music takes over public spaces for free, from the afternoon until midnight, offering a wide range of genres for all audiences.

Eleven stages across the city center

The City collaborates with eleven partner stages, each managed by a local Quimper association or cultural organization, featuring its own musical vibe: the open-air dance floor "Kemper Dañse" at Place Saint-Corentin, jazz and gospel from Aprem'Jazz at Place Terre-au-Duc, electro beats from Synchrone and local collectives on the Esplanade François-Mitterrand, hip-hop on Rue du Parc and at the Halles Saint-François, contemporary music from Kape Music at Place du Stivel and Polarité[s] at Le Novomax, and human-powered karaoke by Kernavélo at Place Médard. The Boulevard Amiral-de-Kerguelen will host the "Electro Kids" bus, an electro space designed for families.

The Conservatory and Breton tradition

The Conservatory of Music and Theatre kicks off the day at the Saint-Corentin Cathedral, followed by performances in the Jardin de l'Évêché, featuring flute, string, and guitar ensembles, bombards and organ, concert bands, brass, and Celtic harp ensembles. In the early evening, the Amicale des bagadoù et cercles celtiques takes over in the Jardin de l'Évêché, where bagadoù, pipers, singers, and dancers will perform until 11:00 PM.

A festival open to amateur musicians

Musicians are also free to perform in the squares and pedestrian streets of the city center from 6:00 PM to midnight. Spots equipped with electrical power are set up at the Parvis Julien-Gracq, the Passage du Chapeau-Rouge, and at three locations around the market halls.
