Every June 21, Quimper celebrates the Fête de la Musique: students and teachers from the Conservatory, amateur musicians, and artists freely take over the city's streets, squares, and cultural venues. From traditional Breton music to contemporary music, the day is entirely free and open to all.
The Fête de la Musique in Quimper
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the capital of Cornouaille into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces, from early afternoon until evening, in all genres and for all audiences.
A city-wide celebration
The Quimper Conservatory of Music and Theatre usually takes over various locations in the city for an eclectic program: students and teachers perform on stage, traditional Breton instruments (bombardes, bagpipes, bagadoù, couples of sonneurs) stand alongside wind orchestras and contemporary music, in the streets and squares of the city center.
