A theater festival in the heart of the Meuse nature
Since 2004, the festival On the Birds' Route has established itself as a unique cultural event in the artistic landscape of the Meuse. Located in Lachaussée, a small village near the Lachaussée pond and the Woëvre nature reserve, the festival takes advantage of its exceptional natural environment to offer a program where performing arts and nature constantly interact.
An international program
The festival unfolds over a week in June, offering a rich and varied program. International theater companies gather in Lachaussée to present their creations in an intimate and warm setting. The program mixes contemporary theater, commedia dell'arte, shows for young audiences, jazz concerts, dance performances, and street performances.
Théâtre Tangente Vardar
The festival is driven by the company Théâtre Tangente Vardar, based in Lachaussée since 1995 in a barn converted into a theater — La Grange Théâtre. This company develops an international cultural program throughout the year, making this rural village a recognized center for artistic creation and dissemination far beyond the borders of the Meuse.
Arts and nature
One of the festival's unique features is its connection to nature. The program includes outdoor artistic workshops, nature activities, games, and surprises that invite the public to rediscover their environment through the lens of art. Conferences and debates on environmental and cultural issues complement the performance program.
Exhibitions and installations
Visual arts exhibitions and artistic installations punctuate the festival's route, offering visitors a complete multidisciplinary experience. These works, often created on-site, interact with the landscape and rural architecture of Lachaussée.
A festival for all audiences
On the Birds' Route is aimed at all audiences, with a particular focus on young audiences. Shows specifically designed for children and families are presented alongside more demanding creations for contemporary theater enthusiasts, making the festival a true place for intergenerational encounters.
