Dreux International Film Festival, discovering world cultures
Created over twenty years ago, Regards d'Ailleurs is the most important cinematographic event in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Each spring, for nearly a month, the festival invites audiences to discover the filmography of a different country through over a hundred screenings, exhibitions, and masterclasses. Programmed at CinéCentre, Auditorium Rotrou, and Théâtre de Dreux, it caters to all audiences with school screenings.
Regards d'Ailleurs stands out for its exceptional duration: nearly a month of programming each spring, making it one of the longest film festivals in France. Since its creation, this Dreux-based event has explored the cinematographies of countries as diverse as Brazil, Greece, Sweden, Iran, India, Japan, and many others. Each edition is an opportunity to dive into a culture through the lens of the seventh art, discovering classic and contemporary films, documentaries, short films, and works rarely shown in France.
One of the strengths of Regards d'Ailleurs lies in the quality of its guests. The festival has hosted internationally renowned filmmakers, actors, and actresses for masterclasses, debates, and preview screenings. During the 22nd edition dedicated to Brazil, director Walter Salles—an Oscar winner for "Central Station"—gave a masterclass at the Théâtre de Dreux, while Camila Pitanga, a Brazilian actress and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, led a masterclass on March 8th, International Women's Rights Day.
The programming of Regards d'Ailleurs presents over 100 screenings each year across three iconic venues in Dreux: CinéCentre, the municipal cinema in the heart of the city, the Auditorium Rotrou, and the Théâtre de Dreux. Nearly 50 different films are screened, offering a comprehensive panorama of the film production of the featured country. Special morning sessions are organized for school groups, with educational materials and interventions from film professionals.
Beyond cinema, Regards d'Ailleurs offers a complete cultural immersion into the guest country. Exhibitions accompany the screenings: during the Brazilian edition, 14 traditional costumes from the samba schools of the Rio Carnival were displayed at the Chapelle de l'Hôtel-Dieu. Themed evenings with music, dance, and gastronomy from the country complete the program. The festival also extends beyond Dreux with screenings in the municipalities of the Agglo du Pays de Dreux, supported by Ciclic's Ciné-mobile network.
Regards d'Ailleurs is a deeply civic festival. By choosing to highlight often-unfamiliar cultures, it promotes openness to the world, intercultural dialogue, and mutual understanding. Ticket prices are accessible, with reduced-price screenings and free events. The festival relies on a network of committed volunteers and the support of the City of Dreux, the Agglo du Pays de Dreux, and regional cultural partners.

The 23rd edition of Regards d'Ailleurs is announced from March 11th to April 8th, 2026, with Sweden as the destination. The festival will offer an exploration of Swedish cinema, from the legacy of Ingmar Bergman to contemporary directors, including the new Scandinavian cinema.
