Every year, the municipality of La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin organizes the Sons au fil de l'eau festival, a free musical event open to all on the banks of the Loire. Located at Place des Grèves, in an exceptional natural setting combining greenery and Loire landscapes, this human-scale festival offers an eclectic and festive program designed to appeal to all audiences.
Formerly known as "Balade en Musique", the festival was renamed Sons au fil de l'eau in 2022 to mark a new beginning. True to the spirit of conviviality and discovery that has driven it since its origins, it continues to showcase world music, French chanson, reggae, soul, folk, and brass bands, guaranteeing the discovery of new artists and talents each year.
The festival spans a full day, from afternoon until midnight. The afternoon is dedicated to children's shows: musical theater, dance, poetry, and performances suitable for children aged 5 and up. In the late afternoon and evening, concerts follow one another on the main stage with artists of various influences: Creole pop, afrobeat, oriental pop, soul-groove, folk, reggae, and many other sunny sounds.
Over the years, the festival has hosted artists such as Djeuhdjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson (Creole pop and afrobeat), Lady Bazaar (soul-groove), Anita Farmine (oriental pop), Labess (chaâbi), Lamuzgueule (digital cabaret), Kokopeli (pop-folk), and The Kitchen Groovers (Amy Winehouse tribute), alongside roaming brass bands and performing arts companies.
In an increasingly environmentally friendly approach, the festival encourages festival-goers to bring their own eco-cups to reduce plastic consumption. Access by bicycle along the Loire banks is also encouraged, and a bicycle parking area is provided on site. Food trucks and a local bar complete the catering options.
The festival is entirely free. It is accessible by bus (line 2, Tilleuls stop), by car (free parking nearby), or by bicycle. The site is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Information and the program are communicated each year on the official town website and the Culture à la Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin Facebook page.
The fifth edition of the Sons au fil de l'eau festival will be held on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, from 5 PM to midnight at Place des Grèves in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin. Program to be announced.
