Corsican PDO Honey Fair, Murzo (Corse-du-Sud)
U Mele in Festa, the Honey Day, is the only event in Corsica entirely dedicated to Corsican PDO honey and its derived products. Organised annually by the Saint-Laurent Association in the village of Murzo, in Corse-du-Sud, at an altitude of 600 metres in the heart of the Liamone valley, the fair traditionally takes place on the last Sunday of September.
U Mele in Festa is the major annual fair dedicated to Corsican PDO honey, organised every year in the village of Murzo, at an altitude of 600 metres in the Liamone valley, in the Deux-Sorru region (Corse-du-Sud). It is the only day on the island entirely dedicated to honey and its derived products.
The fair showcases the six varieties of honey benefiting from the Corsican Protected Designation of Origin: spring, spring maquis, maquis honeydew, chestnut grove, summer maquis and autumn maquis. Alongside the beekeepers, more than 80 stands of island producers and artisans — potters, basket weavers, jewellers, painters, jam makers, distillers — take over the village streets to introduce the public to the richness of Corsican terroirs and savoir-faire.
The day revolves around honey tastings and derived products (candies, nougats, meads, natural cosmetics), educational workshops on the role of bees and pollination, and a large convivial meal served under a marquee at 12:30 PM, entirely cooked with Corsican honey. Musical and cultural entertainment enlivens the afternoon, and free games as well as creative workshops are offered to children.
Organised by the Saint-Laurent Association of Murzo, in partnership with the Fédération Fiere di Corsica and the Chamber of Agriculture of Corse-du-Sud, U Mele in Festa actively participates in the promotion of island beekeeping and the tourist attractiveness of the Deux-Sorru region.
