Corsican PDO honey fair, last Sunday of September in Murzo
U Mele in Festa, also called the Honey Fair or Murzo Honey Festival, is the Corsican day dedicated to Corsican PDO honey, organized annually in the village of Murzo (Corse-du-Sud, Deux Sorru micro-region), on the last Sunday of September.
Organized by the Association Saint-Laurent, this rural fair brings together over 80 stands of Corsican beekeepers, artisans, potters, basket weavers, jewelry designers, and painters in the village streets, all centered around honey and its derived products.
The Murzo Honey Festival, known locally as U Mele in Festa, is a Corsican rural fair organized annually in the small village of Murzo, in Corse-du-Sud, in the Deux Sorru micro-region (about an hour northeast of Ajaccio). The event traditionally takes place on the last Sunday of September.
Organized by the Association Saint-Laurent of Murzo, in conjunction with the Federation of Rural Agricultural and Artisanal Fairs of Corsica (Fiere di Corsica) and the Chamber of Agriculture of Corse-du-Sud, U Mele in Festa aims to be the showcase for Corsican PDO honey and its derived products (gingerbread, nougats, mead, pollens, royal jelly, honey cosmetics).
More than 80 producer stands are set up in the village streets. Visitors can enjoy tastings, explanations from beekeepers, and discover honey in all its forms.
Beyond honey, the day also showcases island craftsmanship: potters, basket weavers, jewelry designers, painters, food trades, and traditional Corsican catering set up in the village. A free concert and children's entertainment usually punctuate the day.
Listed in the calendar of Corsican rural fairs, U Mele in Festa is a popular event for local residents and visitors seeking local products. The event marks the end of the beekeeping season in Corsica and celebrates a recognized PDO savoir-faire since 1998.
