New Olive Oil Fair at the Convent of Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano, Corse-du-Sud
The Olive Tree Festival of Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano — A Festa di l'Oliu Novu in Corsican language — is an unmissable event in the life of Alta Rocca, in Corse-du-Sud. Organized every spring since 1996, it celebrates the arrival of new olive oil and highlights olive growing, an ancestral know-how of the village, renowned for the quality of its oil and its emblematic olive variety, the ghermana d'Alta Rocca.
For a weekend, the forecourt of the convent of Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano welcomes around sixty exhibitors: olive oil producers, artisans and creators from all over Corsica (cutlers, potters, sculptors, cheesemakers, charcutiers, jam makers, winemakers, soap makers, etc.). There are tastings, sales of new olive oil and many Corsican local products.
Beyond the market, the festival offers visits to the village's historic mill, culinary demonstrations centered around olive oil, conferences on the agricultural and tourist challenges of Alta Rocca, activities for children and music. The event, traditionally held on Palm Sunday weekend, also fits into the village's religious calendar with a procession and mass at the convent.
A friendly and popular event, the Olive Tree Festival promotes the productive economy of Alta Rocca around a product symbolizing the region's wealth and renown. It benefits from the recognition of the "Site remarquable du goût" label and remains one of the major events of the Corsican spring.
