Lubersac, Land of Livestock and Agricultural Fairs

Lubersac is a town in Corrèze with a strong agricultural and livestock tradition. The town regularly hosts cattle fairs and prize animal competitions that bring together breeders and traders from all over the region.

'Veaux sous la Mère' Competition

One of the flagship events is the 'veaux sous la mère' competition organized by Groupe Altitude (an agricultural cooperative). This competition brings together about forty calves from Corrèze, Dordogne, and Haute-Vienne, presented by their breeders.

The calves are judged based on conformation, weight, and meat quality criteria. The best animals receive premiums and awards, and can be sold at advantageous prices. This fair is usually held in the spring (May).

Prize Fair for Geese and Ducks

Lubersac also hosts a Prize Fair for Geese and Ducks, specializing in fattened poultry. Foie gras and confit producers present their finest animals for a competition where waterfowl are judged on their weight, conformation, and quality.

Regular Monthly Fairs

In addition to these prize competitions, Lubersac hosts regular fairs on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at the Place de l'Horloge. These fairs mainly offer non-food products (clothing, shoes, haberdashery, flowers, and plants), but they are part of the tradition of Lubersac's markets and fairs.
