The gourmet medieval market around Noyon Cathedral
The Medieval Market of Red Fruits of Noyon is a gourmet and festive event organized every first weekend of July around the majestic Notre-Dame de Noyon Cathedral, in the Oise department. For over 35 years, this event has brought together dozens of exhibitors offering local products — honey, cider, nougat, cheeses, jams, red fruits, craft beers — in a medieval atmosphere with period costumes, entertainment, and a medieval meal in the cathedral cloister. This market has become a local institution celebrating Picardy's gastronomy and traditions.
Every first weekend of July, the surroundings of the Notre-Dame de Noyon Cathedral don their finest medieval attire to host the Medieval Market of Red Fruits. This event, celebrating its 37th edition in 2025, is a true institution in the festive landscape of the Oise.
More than 67 exhibitors set up around the cathedral to offer their artisanal and local products. Visitors discover a wide range of flavors: honey, cider, nougat, cheeses, craft beers, champagne, spices, gingerbread, chocolate, red fruits, jams and syrups, artisanal drinks, charcuterie, and many other specialties.
The highlight of the weekend is the Saturday evening medieval meal, served in the cathedral cloister. In this exceptional historical setting, guests share a dinner with flavors of yesteryear, accompanied by costumed entertainment and medieval music. This unique moment attracts many food lovers each year.
On Sunday lunchtime, the traditional roasted beef is offered on-site, perpetuating a tradition of medieval conviviality. Food stalls and a bar accompany visitors throughout the weekend.
The market is enlivened by costumed medieval troupes who stroll among the stalls. Musicians, jugglers, and artisans complete the atmosphere, transporting visitors to an era gone by. Soap makers, jewelers, and craftspeople also offer their creations.
The Notre-Dame de Noyon Cathedral, one of the first Gothic cathedrals in France (12th century), provides a majestic backdrop for this market. Its cloister, one of the few surviving canonical cloisters in northern France, offers an incomparable historical setting for the Saturday evening medieval meal.
