About Music Festival in Vannes

Every June 21, Vannes celebrates the Fête de la Musique: the walled city, the port, and the central squares transform into open-air stages. Organized by the City of Vannes, the day is entirely free and features a dialogue between Breton music, contemporary music, electro, salsa, French chanson, and DJ sets, from the edges of the port to the alleys of the intra-muros.

The Fête de la Musique in Vannes

As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the historic heart of Vannes into a large open stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces, from early evening until the middle of the night, in all genres and for all audiences: local groups, associations, music schools, and DJs take turns on the squares and along the port.

A celebration spread throughout the center

The City of Vannes sets up several stages in the city center and at the port. On the Simone-Veil esplanade, by the port, contemporary music, electro, and DJ sets animate the evening until midnight. At the foot of the Palais des Arts, Place de Bretagne, Breton music and diatonic accordion are in the spotlight, while the central squares — Maurice-Marchais, Henri IV, Brûlée, Lucien-Laroche — and the forecourt of Les Halles host rock, French chanson, salsa, bachata, and DJs.

The intra-muros and its alleys lend themselves to acoustic stages and concerts in bars and restaurants, which extend the celebration late into the night.
