Burgundy Snails Celebrate!
Since 2017, the town of Chevigny-Saint-Sauveur has been organizing the Festival of the Snail, a gastronomic event dedicated to the famous Burgundy snail (Helix pomatia), a culinary emblem of the region. For a weekend in February, a gourmet and artisanal village is set up in the heart of the town, bringing together about thirty exhibitors: snail producers, winemakers, cheesemakers, mustard makers, confectioners, and artisans from the Burgundy region.
Chefs, Brotherhoods, and Demonstrations
The program highlights gastronomy with live culinary demonstrations hosted by renowned chefs, including Michelin-starred chef Takashi Kinoshita and specialists in Burgundian recipes like œufs en meurette. The parade of gastronomic brotherhoods from Burgundy at 10:30 AM solemnly opens the festivities, followed by the inductions of the Brotherhood of the Snail. Chef Moutarde (Jérémy Pernet) leads culinary workshops for all ages.
A Popular and Family Festival
The Festival of the Snail is complemented by a funfair that opens on Friday afternoon, rides for children, and a festive and friendly atmosphere. Admission to the gourmet village is free, and tastings are offered at affordable prices. The event attracts several thousand visitors each year and contributes to the influence of Burgundian gastronomy.
