A real wedding for fake in the purest Breton tradition
For over fifty years, the commune of Augan, in the heart of the Gallo region in Morbihan, has been perpetuating the tradition of the Noces Bretonnes. Every first Sunday of August, hundreds of participants don the traditional Breton costumes of the inter-war period to recreate an old-fashioned wedding, with the utmost respect for local customs and traditions.
The day begins with the formation of the wedding procession at 9 am, Place de la Poste. The bride and groom, surrounded by their family and guests in Breton costumes, first go to the town hall for the civil ceremony, then to the church for the religious ceremony, led by the Sonnous du Pays (traditional musicians). This colorful procession crosses the streets of Augan to the applause of the spectators, offering a lively and moving spectacle.
After the ceremony, guests gather on the meadow for the traditional outdoor wedding meal. Prepared by the festival committee and served under marquees, this banquet brings together several hundred guests for traditional Breton dishes. The atmosphere is festive, sharing, and convivial, in the pure tradition of Breton weddings of yesteryear.
The afternoon continues with a fest-deiz (traditional daytime ball), where experienced and beginner dancers gather on the dance floor to the sound of musicians and Breton music groups. The day concludes with a grand ball under a marquee that extends the festivities late into the evening.
The Noces Bretonnes d'Augan are distinguished by their authenticity. Far from being a mere folk reenactment, they are the result of meticulous work to preserve the traditions of the Gallo region, carried by the festival committee of Augan and passed down from generation to generation. The event unites the entire local community, mobilized to prepare meals, set up marquees, and welcome visitors.
The 56th Breton Wedding of Augan will take place on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, in the village of Augan (Morbihan). Organized by the Augan festival committee, this grand reenactment of an early 20th-century Breton wedding gathers dozens of musicians and dancers in traditional costumes every first weekend of August: a wedding procession through the village streets, a ceremony, an open-air wedding meal (by reservation), and a Breton ball under a big top.
For over fifty years, the Augan festival committee has recreated an old-fashioned Breton wedding every first weekend of August, as it would have taken place around 1900. For the 56th edition, on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, the village of Augan comes alive for a day to the rhythm of the traditions of the Brocéliande region.
The day opens with the formation of the procession around the newlyweds, who parade in period costumes to the town hall and then to the church for the ceremony. Then comes the grand wedding meal served outdoors, by reservation, followed by musical festivities that traditionally bring together several dozen musicians and over two hundred dancers: a fest-deiz in the afternoon, followed by a grand ball in the evening.
The event, supported by a hundred volunteers, is one of the major Breton cultural events in Morbihan and a live spectacle open to the public throughout the day.
Times are indicative, based on the usual schedule of the event. The detailed musical program for the 2026 edition will be communicated by the festival committee.

The wedding meal is the highlight of the day. It is served outdoors under marquees and includes several traditional Breton dishes. Reservation is mandatory and places are limited. For those not attending the banquet, crepe and drink stands are usually available near the site.
